This facsimile reissues the original standards manual for Puntograma, the integrated signage system built for the FIFA World Cup hosted by Argentina in 1978. Commissioned to MM/B studio — the partnership of Carlos Méndez Mosquera and Gui Bonsiepe — and designed by graphic designer Gustavo Pedroza, it is one of the most resolved systematic visual identities Latin America produced in the 1970s: every letter, pictogram and stadium emblem constructed button by button on a single modular grid, scaled to stay legible from fifteen metres to a hundred and twenty.
The manual is a record of how a small team produced work that moved millions of visitors across a vast country and of how the systematic thinking emerging from Ulm, transmitted from Otl Aicher himself to Bonsiepe, was alive and working in Argentina at the same moment. Printed in a run of just 100 and placed directly in the hands of the technicians who built the signs, it was never officially published, never commercialized and rarely seen since. This edition brings it back, exactly as it was first produced.
